I had spent a considerable amount of time away from the United Kingdom, having resided in the serene and captivating Waiheke Island, New Zealand, a place and community that held a special place in my heart. It was where I had felt a sense of belonging after leaving my birthplace, Botswana, as a young child. However, I had recently relocated to Kenmare, a picturesque but less hospitable town in rural Ireland.

I made a journey to London to meet with a Human Rights organization that was one of my clients at the time. After several meetings in the heart of the city, I returned to the airport by bus, but was stalled by the heavy traffic and the discomfort of a full bladder. I felt out of sync with the energy of England, the place of my origin, and a profound sense of alienation settled in. Seeking solace in my camera, I experimented with the effects of long shutter speeds, traffic and an exhasuted face.
