A collection of masks from modern mythologies.
I was pondering modern pop culture and paralleling it with the most lost (at least to the majority of Western society) mythologies of our heritage. Many are based tenuously on older stories but for the most part, they are recent fiction, but so prevalent. There is some depth in these modern heroes and villains but they lack the richness of their older counterparts. They have all but defeated their elders in the battle for prominence and relevance and that is in my mind a crime. Ironically these have been the most profitable of all my painting sets, that is until the lawyers shut down their presence on many of the print-on-demand sites I license my work. Understandably they were mostly purchased by fans of the character as it appears that my original intent behind these pieces has been lost in translation. Never mind, they bring joy, and that is something in itself.
