Hope Wylder's Home

Little Hope's Apple Tree Abode

Nestled high in the embrace of a towering apple tree, a tiny shack whispers tales of love and loss. Crafted from driftwood and twigs, its walls are adorned with moss and vines, weaving it seamlessly into the living tapestry of Summerland. Though humble in its construction, it resonates with a profound warmth, for it is the dwelling place of Hope Wylder, a soul whose existence transcends the boundaries of the earthly realm.

Born of love but denied the chance to bloom in the land of the living, Hope lives on in the hearts and imaginations of her parents. Their love for her, a constant flame, nourishes her spirit. Yet, Hope is no mere echo of a life unlived. She is a vibrant, playful soul with a spirit as expansive as the sky.

She feasts on the crisp, juicy apples that grow from the very roof of her home, each bite a testament to the enduring connection between her and the land that nurtured her. Laughter spills from her lips as she swings from the sturdy rope swing hanging beneath her abode, her joy echoing through the rustling leaves.

Though denied a life on earth, Hope embraces the beauty of Summerland. She weaves tales of adventures she never lived, her words painting vibrant pictures of a world she can only imagine. Her songs, filled with both longing and acceptance, carry her spirit through the meadows and across the glistening streams.

But amidst her own joys, Hope never forgets the brothers she left behind. Their love, a shared thread that binds them across worlds, is a constant presence in her heart. She watches over them from afar, a guardian angel whispering words of encouragement and love.

Robert de Beaumont’s board game tower

The metamorphosis of Robert de Beaumont from a steadfast companion on the battlefield to a powerful magnate was a testament to the capricious nature of fate. As William the Conqueror's trusted confidant during the Battle of Hastings, Robert's unwavering loyalty and martial prowess were instrumental in securing victory. In a gesture of gratitude, William generously bestowed vast lands in both the United Kingdom and Normandy upon the once-humble knight. Robert found himself elevated to the echelons of power, overseeing expansive territories and reveling in the privileges of wealth and influence.

His reputation extended beyond the battlefield, as chroniclers of the time immortalized him in glowing accounts of wisdom, eloquence, and sagacity. The counsel of Robert de Beaumont became a sought-after commodity, with three successive kings of England seeking his insights. The trust placed in his judgment attested to the depth of his understanding and the impact of his contributions to the kingdom's affairs. Yet, despite the grandeur of his historical legacy, Robert chose a departure from the expected in the ethereal realm of Summerland.

In Summerland, his celestial abode took the unassuming form of a humble tower, a deliberate departure from the opulence he once knew. Rather than reveling in the echoes of past glories, Robert found solace and purpose in a serene pursuit—the creation of intricate and complex board games. Rejecting the allure of material gain, he embarked on a mission to share these creations with friends, accepting only three plays in return. This exchange, beyond being a delightful pastime, served a dual purpose: to teach and refine the rules of the game while fostering camaraderie and shared experiences.

In this way, Robert de Beaumont transformed from a figure of martial might and political influence into a purveyor of intellectual engagement and the bonds forged through the playful spirit of board games. In the timeless expanse of Summerland, where the pursuit of simple joys takes precedence over the trappings of power, Robert found fulfillment in creating lasting connections and a legacy that transcends the mortal realms.

Baron John Godolphin's cottage

The Cornish air, thick with the scent of the sea and the damp earth, had always clung to Baron John Godolphin. Born in the rugged beauty of that windswept peninsula, he carried the essence of his birthplace with him throughout his life. His name, Godolphin, meaning "white eagle," seemed to foreshadow his rise, a majestic creature soaring above the political landscape. He served with both Whigs and Tories, yet remained aloof from their fervent passions, a master of political expediency.

His journey into the conflict was marked by tragedy, inheriting his father's lands and armies after his demise in the first battle. Fuelled by a deep-seated vendetta against the houses of York, Percy embarked on a relentless campaign to decimate his rivals. His reputation for ruthlessness and looting, particularly a penchant for stealing cattle as a form of punishment, became as notorious as his prowess on the battlefield.

The warlike temperament that defined Henry Percy extended beyond the battlefield, permeating his relationships with neighbors, resulting in ceaseless feuds that drew the king's intervention. The constant strife led to royal interventions and calls for peace, as Percy's antagonistic nature threatened to destabilize the delicate balance of power in the realm. His life took a dramatic turn when his gate to Summerland opened amidst the chaos of a snowstorm on the battlefield, sealing his fate.

Born with the restless spirit of the Cornish coast, he roamed the West Country, a gentle soul with a knack for slipping into the rhythm of the land. He'd sleep beneath the hedges and star-dusted skies, his lullabies woven from the whispers of the wind and the distant cries of the curlew. He'd spin tales of the piskie folk, mischievous sprites who danced in moonlit glens and hid treasures in forgotten caves. But John was wise enough to leave the details shrouded in mystery, never tempting the ire of these mischievous creatures.

Wherever he went, John was met with a chorus of joyful cheers. Villagers would emerge from their cottages, children would chase after him, their laughter echoing through the cobbled streets. Judith of Flanders Haven

Judith of Flanders Haven

Judith of Flanders, a name that echoed with the weight of crowns and the whispers of scandal, found a surprising peace in the gentle embrace of Summerland. Her earthly life, a whirlwind of arranged marriages, untimely deaths, and daring escapes, had left her with a profound understanding of the fleeting nature of power and the enduring strength of the natural world.

Married at twelve, widowed by sixteen, and then eloping with a forester's son to live amongst the Vikings, her story was one of defiance and survival. She had been the first anointed queen in Britain, yet her life was a tapestry woven with threads of tragedy and unexpected turns. When her father, King Charles the Bald, finally relented and forgave her, she returned to a life of power, becoming a formidable figure in both Wessex and Flanders.

But in Summerland, the trappings of royalty held no sway. Judith sought solace in the ancient groves, her spirit drawn to the gnarled oaks and whispering willows that stood as silent sentinels of time. She found kinship with the trees, their roots reaching deep into the earth, their branches stretching towards the ethereal sky. She communed with the mycelium, the vast, unseen network that connected all living things, listening to the stories it wove from the whispers of wind and the rustling of leaves.

The mycelium, a living library of Summerland and the mortal realm, shared its knowledge with Judith. It spoke of the rise and fall of kingdoms, the ebb and flow of life, the intricate dance of creation and decay. Judith, with her keen mind and her ear finely tuned to the rhythms of nature, absorbed these stories, weaving them into a rich tapestry of understanding.

If asked, she would recount these tales with remarkable precision, her voice a gentle murmur that echoed the rustling leaves. She spoke of the hidden connections between seemingly disparate events, the subtle influences that shaped destinies, and the enduring wisdom of the natural world. Her stories were not mere recitations, but living narratives, each detail carefully placed, each connection meticulously drawn, revealing the intricate and interconnected web of existence. She was a storyteller of the earth, a keeper of the mycelium's wisdom, a queen who found her true sovereignty in the quiet communion with the ancient trees of Summerland.

Lannosea’s sun lodge

Lannosea’s sun lodge

The Roman legionnaires dragged Lannosea from the smoldering ruins of her home, her mother's screams echoing in the smoke-filled air. Boudica, the warrior queen, lay broken, her defiance extinguished. But in her daughter, the Romans saw a different prize: a symbol of their victory, a living trophy to display in their triumph.

Senica, the Roman advisor, saw the potential. Lannosea, with her fiery spirit and the ghost of her mother's courage still flickering within, could be a potent weapon. He had her meticulously groomed, her Celtic spirit systematically crushed. They clipped her hair, forced her to wear Roman gowns, and drilled into her the Roman way of life. They taught her their language, their history, their gods, all designed to erase the memory of her heritage, to break her will.

But Lannosea proved more resilient than they anticipated. The Roman indoctrination only fuelled her anger. She endured beatings, starvation, and the constant humiliation of public displays, her silence a defiant scream against her captors. She became a living symbol of Roman dominance, paraded before conquered tribes as a warning of what awaited those who dared to resist.

Years of torment took their toll. The fire in her eyes dimmed, replaced by a hollow despair. One moonless night, she found a way to end her suffering. The Roman guards found her lifeless in her cell, the ghost of Boudica finally finding solace.

In Summerland, Lannosea's spirit, though broken in life, became a beacon of hope for those who suffered oppression. Her courage, her defiance in the face of unimaginable cruelty, resonated throughout the ethereal realm. The inhabitants of Summerland, recognising this potent energy, created the Sun Lodge, a place dedicated to honouring her memory where she works without pause in harnessing sunlight into a potion of rage and love that radiates out across all known and unknown realms.
